Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – CV will provide advanced nursing care across the variety of services to patients in the assigned service areas. The CNS role will provide guidance to our recently expanding Cardiovascular Services which will include PCI and OHS. The CNS will promote the essentials of the Advanced Practice Nursing role in that the candidate will provide guidance, direction and assistance to the nursing staff in attaining and maintaining optimal quality of nursing care to patients. The CNS follows a practice model promoting the comprehensive care of the patient. Candidate will assist the Director and Cardiovascular Clinical Coordinators with ensuring patient care and practice to meet regulatory agency standards. Candidate is specifically responsible for throughput, coordinating and implementing services and related activities. He/she functions as a liaison between the physicians, nursing staff, allied healthcare professionals, patients and their families. Works closely with physicians and nursing to ensure clinical care pathways are followed, as appropriate. Will maintain quality standard for patients under his/her care and is responsible to ensure all outcomes are met as stated. He/she will take a leadership role in development and implementation of outcomes evaluation as guided by The Joint Commission accreditation standard, and prior to discharge ensure documentation is complete. Working with nursing staff to optimize patient care, which may involve consulting with patient care managers, evaluating current practices, analyzing alternatives, and educating nursing staff on new procedures.
Graduate of an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist/Program of Nursing, with Master’s Science Nursing Degree, Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist preferred, Current DEA Certificate and furnishing number preferred. Minimum 3 years experience involved with the immediate recovery of post-open heart surgery patients required. Recovery skills for post-angioplasty patients is a plus. Minimum 2 years recent experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist working with Cardiovascular patients in an acute care setting preferred, OR for recent graduates, must have a minimum of 5 years recent experience as an RN working with Cardiovascular patients in a critical care setting.
Working knowledge of performance improvement, licensure and accreditation requirements. Demonstrates good capacity for teaching, organizing, planning and development. Strong interpersonal communication and customer relation skills.
Current CA RN license; Current CA Nurse Practitioner (CNS) ANCC certification preferred; current AHA BLS, ACLS. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Internet.
