This course is a must for the nurse caring for medical/surgical/telemetry patients.
Course Objectives:
At the end of the program the participant will be able to:

List normal values for vital signs (BP, HR, RR, pulse oximetry & Temp)

Discuss accurate measurement of BP, orthostatic BP, and BP in shock patient.

List factors that affect vital signs

Distinguish multiple lung sounds

Definetypes of ventilator settings

Identify common alarms and disadvantages with each ventilator setting

Define NIPPV settings, usages, benefits, and adverse conditions

Discuss care of a patient receiving NIPPV

Distinguish oxygen therapy use and care:

Nasal cannula

Simple face mask
-
Venturi mask
-
Partial non-rebreathing mask

Discuss care of patient with a chest tube

Identify neurological assessment in relation to Glascow Coma Scale

Describe care of a medical detox patient
-
Define assessment of skin, hair, and nails

Identify assessment of pulses and edema

Locate common areas of referred abdominal pain

Locate common areas of referred abdominal pain

List placement, suction, and feeding with a gastric tube
Program Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites required.
Program Credit:
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for 8.0 hours, BRN Provider Number 1384. No partial credit will be given.
