First Weeks Breastfeeding Support Groups Every Thurday

Led by our lactation specialists, this support group provides a nurturing place where you can meet other breastfeeding mothers, discuss breastfeeding related issues and get needed assistance. Labor of Love Childbirth Education Program

Expectant parents can learn more about their upcoming birthing experience and what to expect when the baby gets home in the Labor of love Childbirth Education Program. The seven week series offers a wide variety of classes to prepare parents for the changes pregnancy, labor and the birth of their new child may bring. Classes include:

·         Session 1: Introduction, Communication, Exercise & Pregnancy Tips

·         Session 2: Stages of Labor; Relaxation & Breathing Techniques.

·         Session 3: Active Labor, Transition, Pushing and Epidurals

·         Session 4: Cesarean Section, Newborn Appearance and Newborn Care

·         Session 5: Transition to Parenthood, with Diana Barnes, Psy.D.

·         Session 6: Child and Infant Safety

·         Session 7: Breastfeeding

Childbirth education classes take place Tuesdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms 1 & 2, Human Resources Building, 23871 McBean Parkway, Valencia, CA. The classes are available to any expectant couple—not just patients of Henry Mayo Hospital. Please wear comfortable shoes, bring pillows and bottled water. The cost per couple is $225. Baby Care Basics Class

This informal class will help new parents feel more comfortable caring for their newborn. Taught by a Pediatrician and an RN. Topics include newborn care, sleeping patterns, vaccinations and SIDS. A discussion session will allow opportunities for questions. Child & Infant CPR Class
4/13/2010

The class gives parents the confidence to handle stressful and potentially dangerous situations by teaching them infant cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking procedures, as well as automated external defibrillator. Class takes place from 6:30—9:30 p.m. in the Conference Rooms 1 & 2, Human Resources Building, 23871 McBean Parkway, Valencia   Participants will receive a Child/Infant CPR participation card from the American Heart Association. $35.  To register, call (661) 253-8607.



Free Community CPR Class

Open to anyone who wants to learn adult CPR but does not need to be certified. Class meets from 7 to 8 p.m. in Henry Mayo's Human Resources Building Rooms 4 & 5. Class is free, but seats are limited. Register in advance by calling (661) 253-8888.



Tyke Hike
4/15/2010

 Our free Tyke Hike program helps prepare children for their new responsibilities as a big brother or big sister. Siblings-to-be will learn how to behave around a newborn, hold a baby properly, as well as other important safety tips. Throughout the program, the children receive small gifts that reinforce what they learn, such as a little scrub sponge to teach them the importance of washing their hands when touching the new baby. This free class takes place from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month and is open to children (toddlers to pre-teens) accompanied by an adult. This workshop led by our lactation specialists covers the anatomy of the breast, latching-on and positioning, milk supply, common breastfeeding concerns, as well as nutrition during lactation, breast pumps and equipment, going back to work and breastfeeding resources. Heart Health Fair

Join us Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Santa Clarita Community Center in Newhall for our free, quarterly “Care for Your Heart” Health Fair from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. Everyone who attends will receive a Heart Health Passport and can visit several heart health screening stations for complimentary cholesterol and glucose tests; blood pressure monitoring; height and weight measurement; and body fat analysis. Members of Henry Mayo’s respiratory therapy department will provide tests to measure oxygen saturation and carbon monoxide levels. Participants can also receive a heart health summary of their test results from a member of Henry Mayo’s medical staff. 12-hour fasting is recommended for more accurate blood screening results.

In addition to the medical screenings, participants can enjoy healthy snacks while speaking with a Henry Mayo nutritionist about improving their eating habits and get additional heart health information from our community partners in attendance.

Siblings-to-be will learn how to behave around a newborn, hold a baby properly, as well as other important safety tips. Throughout the program, the children receive small gifts that reinforce what they learn, such as a little scrub sponge to teach them the importance of washing their hands when touching the new baby. This free class takes place from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month and is open to children (toddlers to pre-teens) accompanied by an adult. Heart Health Fair
9/10/2010

Join us Friday, September 10, 2010, at the Santa Clarita Community Center in Newhall for our free, quarterly “Care for Your Heart” Health Fair from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. Everyone who attends will receive a Heart Health Passport and can visit several heart health screening stations for complimentary cholesterol and glucose tests; blood pressure monitoring; height and weight measurement; and body fat analysis. Members of Henry Mayo’s respiratory therapy department will provide tests to measure pulse oximetry and carbon monoxide levels. Participants can also receive a heart health summary of their test results from a member of Henry Mayo’s medical staff. 12-hour fasting is recommended for more accurate blood screening results.

 

In addition to the medical screenings, participants can enjoy healthy snacks while speaking with a Henry Mayo nutritionist about improving their eating habits and get additional heart health information from our community partners in attendance.

Our free Tyke Hike program helps prepare children for their new responsibilities as a big brother or big sister. Siblings-to-be will learn how to behave around a newborn, hold a baby properly, as well as other important safety tips. Throughout the program, the children receive small gifts that reinforce what they learn, such as a little scrub sponge to teach them the importance of washing their hands when touching the new baby. This free class takes place from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month and is open to children (toddlers to pre-teens) accompanied by an adult. Child & Infant CPR Class

The class gives parents the confidence to handle stressful and potentially dangerous situations by teaching them infant cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking procedures, as well as automated external defibrillator. Heart Health Fair

Join us Friday, December 10, 2010, at the Santa Clarita Community Center in Newhall for our free, quarterly “Care for Your Heart” Health Fair from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. Everyone who attends will receive a Heart Health Passport and can visit several heart health screening stations for complimentary cholesterol and glucose tests; blood pressure monitoring; height and weight measurement; and body fat analysis. Members of Henry Mayo’s respiratory therapy department will provide tests to measure oxygen saturation and carbon monoxide levels. Participants can also receive a Framingham heart health risk assessment based on their test results.  12-hour fasting is recommended for more accurate blood screening results.

In addition to the medical screenings, participants can enjoy healthy snacks while speaking with a Henry Mayo nutritionist about improving their eating habits and get additional heart health information from our community partners in attendance.

Tyke Hike

Our free Tyke Hike program helps prepare children for their new responsibilities as a big brother or big sister. Siblings-to-be will learn how to behave around a newborn, hold a baby properly, as well as other important safety tips. Throughout the program, the children receive small gifts that reinforce what they learn, such as a little scrub sponge to teach them the importance of washing their hands when touching the new baby. This free class takes place from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month and is open to children (toddlers to pre-teens) accompanied by an adult. Labor of Love Saturday Class

Expectant parents can learn more about their upcoming birthing experience and what to expect when the baby gets home in the Labor of Love Childbirth Education Program. The class is designed for busy parents or second-time parents and takes place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The intensive one-day courses cover sessions 1-4 of our more extensive seven-week series for first time parents. Both courses prepare parents for the changes pregnancy, labor and the birth of their new child may bring.
