We place a high priority on clinical competence and quality care at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, and as part of our commitment to furthering the professionalism of our patient care staff, we view formal continuing education as a key element of success for the career growth of our nurses, clinicians and medical staff. After all, it is through their work that we can fulfill our mission of improving the health of the community through compassion and excellence in health care.

Nursing and Employee Education - CEUs
As part of our goal to train and hire superior nurses and other talented healthcare professionals, we have dedicated extensive resources to furthering the capabilities of our staff. Every department of the hospital has resources dedicated to staff development, from nationally recognized leadership training, to regular and practical hands-on training for new medical technologies, critical thinking, and basic software applications.

Henry Mayo employees who want to further their education and their career opportunities benefit from our tuition reimbursement program and specialty nurse training courses. Even the children of hospital staff receive special grant monies donated by the medical staff to help defray the costs of university classes.

Our commitment to nursing as a profession begins even before we hire. For example, to help alleviate the nursing shortage on a local level, we partnered with the College of the Canyons nursing program by donating space and funding for a full-time instructor, increasing their program capacity by 50%. The HMNMH/COC Clinical Education Center is a comprehensive teaching and training laboratory for students enrolled in the college's two-year nursing program. We also give new grads an instructive, watchful environment where they can safely assimilate to their new work life.

We also mentor clinical nursing assistant students in the Hart High School District Regional Occupational Program and regularly host their graduation on our campus. And throughout the year we make time to visit local schools to teach teenagers about driving safe, and to talk to school children about career decisions.

Medical Staff CMEs
We have a highly trained and experienced medical staff that demands and receives regular continuing medical education programs that are scientifically-supported, relevant to their practices, and current in topic. All of our continuing medical education programs are reviewed and approved by an impassioned Physician Education Committee. All of our CMEs are taught by specialists who use class time focus on practical and timely solutions to medical problems, with the goal to enhance the skills and expand their knowledge base of the physician audience.

Community Health Education
Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital has the privilege of working with many extremely committed local organizations who in our mission to improve the health of our community through compassion and excellence in healthcare services. Through partnerships with well-informed and active groups such as the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association and others, we've been able to provide disease prevention education and support groups on our campus that benefits both patients and their families.

We also enjoy working with our local City government, the nearby senior center, the area chamber and industrial association, and other health-focused not-for-profits to bring health screenings and education to seniors, parents and their children, and individuals with chronic disease.

Ultimately, we believe that by investing in the education of our staff, physicians and local residents and giving them the tools they need to make optimum healthcare and medical decisions, we all benefit - the hospital, our community and most importantly, our patients.
