Henry Mayo has a broad range of tools to identify and manage heart disease, including:

Electrocardiograms – These tests measure the electrical activity of the heart, the rate and regularity of heartbeats, the size and position of the chambers, the presence of any damage to the heart, and the effects of drugs or devices used to regulate the heart.

Echocardiography - Often referred to as a cardiac ECHO, this diagnostic test uses sound waves to create a moving picture of the heart. Using standard ultrasound techniques, the test reveals the size and shape of your heart and how well the heart’s chambers and valves are working.

Cardiac stress tests – There are a variety of cardiac stress tests available at Henry Mayo to diagnose cardiovascular problems, including:

• Treadmill stress test: As long as a patient can walk and has a normal electrocardiogram (ECG) , this is normally the first stress test performed. The patient walks on a treadmill while being monitored to identify changes in the ECG that suggest the heart may not be getting enough blood. If a patient has difficulty walking, medication is given to make the heart respond as if the person were exercising so the doctor can still determine how the heart responds to stress, but no exercise is required.
• Stress echocardiogram: A stress echo can accurately visualize the motion of the heart's walls and pumping action when the heart is stressed. Some heart problems are easier to diagnose when the heart is beating fast and it may reveal a lack of blood flow that may not be apparent on other heart tests.
• Nuclear stress test: This test helps to determine if any part of the heart is functioning abnormally. A small amount of radioactive substance is injected into the patient and then the doctor uses a special camera to identify the rays emitted from the substance. These rays produce clear pictures of the heart tissue on a monitor. These pictures, taken both at rest and after exercise, identify areas of the heart that have a decreased blood supply.
