Henry Mayo Unveils Mural at New Patient Tower

Members of Santa Clarita’s arts community, along with Santa Clarita mayor Marsha McLean and other local leaders, gathered at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Friday morning to witness the unveiling of a three-story mural located in the patio outside of the cafeteria in the new patient tower.

Painted by local artist/historian Frank Rock, the new mural was designed to be both “calming and healing.”

“This piece was to instill a sense of calmness, serenity and peace,” said Rock. “The goal was to make this a restful, flowing, piece for those who view it. The gratitude from the people that invited me to paint this piece is very rewarding. I’m glad that I was able to deliver. It’s a great feeling to accomplish what they wanted.”

Rock, who was selected to paint the design by Henry Mayo’s design team, completed the mural in March after nearly two full weeks of work. Rock estimates this mural is the biggest and tallest artwork piece he had ever painted. The mural was designed by Kevin Barry Fine Art.

At the event, attendees where given the opportunity to view the mural and learn more about the work that went into it during a brief program that included a short film showing how the mural was conceived and created.

Looking ahead, Henry Mayo staff and volunteers are slated to move patients into the new tower on October 27. Grand opening celebratory events will take place during the second week in October, with a public open house event to be held on Saturday, October 12 from 10 am to noon.
