Henry Mayo Administers First COVID-19 Vaccine

We administered our first batch of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Thursday, December 17 to the Henry Mayo frontline workers. Kathy Brady, a senior clinical registered nurse in the Wayne and Connie Spears Intensive Care Unit, was the first to be inoculated. She has been caring for COVID-19 patients since the onset of the pandemic and is one of many medical professionals who have adjusted their daily lives by “taking so many showers before and after work” and thinking about their loved ones at home. “I’m happy that I was able to get vaccinated; I feel a bit of relief,” she said. “I don’t feel discomfort or anything. I don’t feel any dizziness or anything like that.” Henry Mayo pharmacist and clinical coordinator Courtney Mattley, administered the shot. She and Kathy were both excited and relieved to finally have a vaccine on hand. A big thank-you to the many staff members who worked furiously to set up our first COVID-19 vaccine clinic, which ended Monday, December 21. They took on a huge logistical challenge, winding up with not one unused dose. The whole event was able to come together in just a matter of days. It was a remarkable achievement!
