Longstanding Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Chaplain Margery Link Retires

In November 2021, Margery Link, the Pastoral Care Coordinator and Head Chaplain at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, retired after nearly 30 years of service. Over the years, she has brought on additional chaplains to help support the critical services the department provides.

Margery and her colleagues provide spiritual and emotional support to Henry Mayo patients and their families, as well as to the hospital staff. On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Pastoral Care team administers to people in times of crisis. Pastoral Care is closely involved with trauma services and the cases that come through the emergency department. Margery also served as the chaplain for palliative care services at the hospital.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity that I have had in working with our local Clergy,” said Margery. “I have not only enjoyed working with them but also having fellowship with them I wish to them for all they do for our community and all that they have done for our patients/families/and staff. I have many wonderful memories.”

Our President and CEO Roger Seaver commented on Margery by saying, “It is unusual for an independent, not-for-profit hospital to have a Pastoral Care department. Margery’s commitment to serving our community hospital and her vision of offering a compassionate interfaith connection during difficult times has provided comfort and solace to countless patients, families, and loved ones. She has also provided uplifting support and counsel to our caregivers and staff as they deal with stressful situations. Margery has been a welcoming and comforting presence on campus for many, many years. We will miss her greatly.

“Margery set the standard high for our pastoral care department. Fortunately, she has established a strong framework for us to continue to meet the spiritual needs of patients, their families, and Henry Mayo staff members. We are enormously grateful to her for her pioneering and selfless leadership and the positive spirit she has instilled at Henry Mayo.”
