Henry Mayo Helps Combat Blood Shortage
Throughout the Holiday season, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital hosted a series of blood drives with The American Red Cross and Houchin Blood Bank.
The American Red Cross, the main supplier of blood to Henry Mayo, has been experiencing “historically low blood supply levels," and Henry Mayo encouraged its employees and their friends and family to donate blood.
Every day, thousands of people rely on blood donors to help them maintain optimum health. Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital regularly partners with the American Red Cross to host at least six blood drives each year. Blood collected at Henry Mayo is processed by the American Red Cross and a portion of the supplies are dedicated back to the hospital. That means that the blood is returned to the hospital for patient use.
Blood and platelet donations have been critically needed to help prevent further delays in vital medical treatments. In thanks, those who come to give blood, platelets or plasma in January 2022 will automatically be entered for a chance to win a getaway to Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles. As an extra thank-you from the Red Cross, those who come to donate will also be automatically entered to win a home theater package and a $500 e-gift card. Platelets are collected at Red Cross donation centers only, and are not collected at blood drives. Learn more about platelet donations.
Looking forward, Henry Mayo plans to host two blood drives in March. On March 4 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., a blood drive will be held at Henry Mayo Fitness and Health (24525 Town Center Dr, Valencia, CA 91355). On March 14 from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., a blood drive will be held on the campus of Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital at the Henry Mayo Center (23803 McBean Pkwy, Valencia, CA 91355).
