Dawn Lunde – Knee Replacement

On May 27 Dawn Lunde came to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital to have a total knee replacement done. She came to Henry Mayo at a time when, due to fears of COVID-19, many people were fearful of going to hospitals.

Not so Dawn.

“I knew hospitals were taking extensive safety precautions,“ she said. “I figured they were one of the safer places to be.”

Once Dawn had her surgery, she was reassured by the safety precautions Henry Mayo staff were following. “Everybody who came into my room was masked and wearing gloves,” she said. “It was obvious that the staff were being extra-careful and wanted me to feel comfortable.”

Dawn’s surgery was done by Henry Mayo physician Tarek Bittar, MD, and she’s doing great now. She gives special credit to Henry Mayo orthopedic nurse navigator Marline McDermott. “Marline is amazing. She went out of her way to help me while I was in the hospital and days after. I can’t thank her enough.”

Perhaps most important, while at Henry Mayo, Dawn felt “Safe in Our Care!”
