Henry Mayo Employees Donate over $1 Million for New Patient Tower
VALENCIA, CA (September 26, 2019) — On Wednesday evening, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital employees gathered at The Canyon to celebrate a milestone in Henry Mayo’s Employee Giving Campaign, a fundraising effort launched three years ago supporting construction of the hospital’s new patient tower, scheduled to open late October. The Employee Giving Campaign has been a critical component in Henry Mayo’s ongoing “Building for Your Health” capital campaign, and has attracted over 600 participants.
Since 2016, Henry Mayo employees have donated over one million dollars through the Employee Giving Campaign. By comparison, this is roughly the same amount donated by employees in the 41 years between the Hospital’s opening in 1975 and the start of the campaign in 2016.
“Giving back to our hospital represents who we are as an organization and who we are as employees,” said Henry Mayo’s Jennifer Fitzpatrick, RN, Director of Critical Care Services. “We are committed, we are kind, we are generous with our time, money, and talents, but most of all, WE CARE about our patients.”
Chaired by Fitzpatrick and Dustin Ashenfelter, RN, Henry Mayo’s Director of Emergency & Trauma Services, hospital employees have enthusiastically supported the giving campaign at varying levels. Many employees chose to donate an hour or more of their pay every pay period through automatic payroll deductions, earning them the highest donor distinction of “Boss.”
In addition to broad community support, the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation relies on generous donations from hospital employees, physicians, volunteers, Board Members, and past donors for its capital campaigns and fundraising efforts. To date, the overall campaign has raised almost ten million dollars.
The Hospital’s New Patient Tower will include 119 private patient rooms, including a 29-bed expanded Center for Women and Newborns with additional surgical suites, a new café and kitchen, an expanded laboratory and blood bank, and a roof top helipad with direct Emergency Department access.
Henry Mayo staff and volunteers are slated to move patients into the new patient tower on October 27. Grand opening celebratory events will take place during the second week in October, with a public open house event to be held on Saturday, October 12 from 10 am to noon.
